An Overview of 6th Grade ScienceThis year is marked by a year of change. Our science curriculum is not exempt from that. Our middle school students will now experience integrated science instruction. What that means is that our students will delve deeply into multiple areas of science.
As sixth graders we will explore the depths of our solar system, properties of matter, how organisms interact in the world around us, as well as human growth and development. Students will be asked to conduct themselves in accordance to our lab safety rules for their own safety and the safety of others while in the classroom and in a lab setting. Course Syllabus
Getting to Know MeThe 2015-2016 school year marks my first year teaching sixth grade science. Prior to this year I taught 7th grade science since the fall of 2008 when I initially moved to Kansas. I started my career in Dodge City when I relocated from Michigan where I was born and raised. I moved to Wichita in the summer of 2014 starting a new adventure at Wilbur Middle School.
I attended Western Michigan University earning a Bachelors degree in education with minors in the Arts (Theater, Dance, visual art, and music), math and science graduating cum laude in December of 2007. I currently hold a valid teaching license in Kansas. I am certified to to teach K-5 with a highly qualified middle level, grades 5 - 8, science and ESL endorsements. Since beginning my career I have continued my education at Newman University completing my Masters Degree in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an ESL emphasis. I have also begun working on my doctorate in educational leadership at Kansas State University. Involvement in education is important to me, I have been on the district curriculum committee, worked on curriculum development with the WestEd program as well as NGSS, and have attended the Kansas Migrant Academy amongst leading several technology inservice training sessions..I now take pride in leading our 6th grade team to a wildly successful year! Outside of the education realm I enjoy time with my rather large family. My husband and I have five children. Our oldest is 11 and the youngest is 1 year old. We enjoy our time on the boat at the lake and catching a good flick. We currently have a pet bearded dragon and a few fish. |
